Scotsman Guide

Personas

Based on user survey responses and extensive research with the customer service team, I developed unique personas representing the three major user groups for Scotsman Guide.

information architecture

Working both with my design team and also with the development manager, I helped develop the information architecture for the redesigned web product. With features being added, removed, and significantly altered, I advocated for conversations with stakeholders about not only the "where" and "how" of user interactions and flows, but also diving deeper into the "why" of some of the historical interaction matters and information architecture. In many cases I found situations where information had previously been chunked in a way that wasn't serving the best needs of either the business or the user.

diagramming

Throughout the design process I was responsible for creating and maintaining diagrams to be used in stakeholder conversations and developer handoff to help describe both the site flow and individual user's flow through the revised website.

User research

Using a variety of methods including mouse and click tracking, interviews with sales and customer service representatives, and targeted surveys I gathered information about user needs and wishes and compiled reports to share with stakeholders in order to facilitate data-driven design decisions.

Sketching

From developing features to constructing complex layouts, everything begins with a paper and pencil for me in order to let my ideas start rough before iterations and revisions.

Stakeholder Conversations

Meeting with stakeholders and evangelizing a data-driven and user-centric process has been a major portion of my time with Scotsman Guide. I worked directly with C-level executives on a regular basis, as well as coordinating directly with other departments including marketing and development.

higher fidelity and Prototyping

Using Sketch, web-based Invision, and later experimenting with Invision Studio, I created clickable prototypes to share concepts with the design team, developers, and stakeholders.

Handoff & Collaboration

On a daily basis we coordinate work, overcome blocks, and collaborate on features and implementation with the in-house development team. I have experience creating detailed documentation including feature requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and interaction notes. Along with written documentation, I've created many types of diagrams and visual aids to help developers understand the business and design goals.
